Potatoes Au Gratin

Fool Proof Au Gratin Potatoes

This classic Potatoes au Gratin recipe is always a favorite. Go to taste on the cheese and add more if you like.

3 tablespoons ea: butter or margarine and flour
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups milk
6 oz shredded cheddar cheese (1-1/2 cups)
5 cups or so thinly sliced peeled potatoes
1/2 cup or so chopped onion

Preheat oven to 350.

Over low to medium heat, melt butter in saucepan and stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook until smooth but not brown. Whisk in milk and bring to a boil. Cook and stir 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted. Add potatoes and onion. Transfer to sprayed 2 quart baking dish or casserole. Cover and bake 1 hour.

Uncover and bake about 30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. This Potatoes au Gratin recipe serves 6-8.
