Homemade Soap - Making Soaps at Home

SUGAR SWEET BUBBLE BATH #2

I’m always intrigued how common kitchen ingredients find their way into expensive spa products. For Rose Marie, who bought a bottle of this in a Pennsylvania Amish store. “Using this actually encouraged my kids to bathe!”, she laughed. She wants to be able to make this at home. “The ingredients listed were liquid soap, glycerin, sugar and fragrance, and it smelled like lavender”, she told me. The glycerin helps keep the soap “slippery” and not only heals the skin but locks moisture in. Find liquid glycerin and lavender oil at health food stores. The little bit of sugar helps extend the life of the bubbles.

1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup mild dishwashing liquid, like Ivory
1/4 cup glycerin
Essential oil of your choice - lavender, etc. or none if you wish

Mix sugar, soap and glycerin together. Start adding drops of lavender oil until you get the scent you like. Put homemade soap in a squeeze or pump bottle.

MAKE IT IN A MINUTE BUBBLE BATH

Almond oil softens the skin and the dishwashing soap gives oodles of bubbles.
Mix together:
2 tablespoons almond oil
8 oz mild, unscented dishwashing soap, such as Ivory
Few drops essential oil (opt)

BATH JEL

1/2 cup water
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup liquid soap or bubble bath
Food coloring (opt)

Place gelatin in water and let sit a minute or two to “bloom”. Then heat the water until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and gently stir in soap. Pour into container. If the jel is going to be used by kids you can drop a tiny toy in or a sea shell. Put in refrigerator to gel. To use, place a small amount under warm tap water or use as a shower gel.

GLYCERIN SOAP

Melt glycerin soap base and add 10 drops of essential oil of your choice and a tiny bit of food coloring. Pour into molds until hard.
