SANDY’S YUMMMY SUPERBOWL “DUMP” CAKE

I try to cook healthy for my family on a regular basis. But when Super Bowl rolls around, that’s one day that snack foods and fun cakes rein supreme.

After all, we have to be pampered with our favorite foods if we’re going to get into the spirit of the game!

So “Dump” Cake aptly fills the bill. It’s called “Dump” cake because, really, you just dump everything into the pan – you don’t even need a bowl for this one!

What could be easier, or more delicious, than this for a Super Bowl party? Sandy, a Mt. Carmel resident and my niece, is a wonderful, very busy lady who cooks for her family and loves tried & true speed-scratch recipes like this.

Some recipes tell you to bake the cake at 350 for 45-60 minutes but Sandy likes to bake it at 375 for 1 hour. “It takes a while for the filling to moisten the cake mix and bake properly”, she said. Use your favorite pie filling.

1 can cherry pie filling
1 can pineapple tidbits with juice
1 box cake mix, about 19 oz.
Chopped pecans for sprinkling on top (opt)
2 sticks butter or margarine, cut up in tiny pieces or melted

In a sprayed 9x 13 pan, pour in the pie filling, then the pineapple. Pour cake mix (dry) over top. Sprinkle with nuts and dot with butter. If you’re using melted butter, pour that on top. Bake 45 -60 minutes either at 350 or 375. Serves anywhere from 12-18.
