Blender Drinks
EASY BLENDER DRINKS
I love the promise of spring, but this is a time of year that can
get hectic with outside chores and kids in sports, etc. For a quick breakfast
on the run, or middle of the day pick-me-up, these blender drinks
fill
the bill.
Cranana Smoothie
Adapted from my friend, Linda Hamilton’s recipe.
1 ripe banana cut up
6 oz frozen cranberry juice concentrate, thawed
1-1/4 cups orange juice
Squeeze of lime juice (opt)
1 cup ice
Put cranberry juice and banana in blender and blend until smooth. Add
orange juice, lime juice and ice. Blend until smooth.
Orange Slushy
2 scoops orange sherbet, regular or fat free
1 cup orange soda, regular or sugar free
1 generous cup ice
Blender everything together.
Light Chocolate Frosty
Tastes like the famous Frosty from the hamburger chain.
1 cup milk, regular or low fat
1/4 cup chocolate milk powder (like Nestle Quik) or more to taste
3-4 cups vanilla ice cream
Blender everything until smooth.
Chocolate Shake
1-1/2 cups milk
2 cups vanilla or chocolate ice cream
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
Blender everything together.
Variations:
•
Vanilla: omit chocolate syrup and add 2 teaspoons vanilla and sugar to
taste (start out with 1 tablespoon).
•
Malted: Add 2 tablespoons or so of malted milk powder.
Strawberry Lemonade
3 cups lemonade
1 cup sweetened or unsweetened frozen strawberries, thawed
Blender together. Add a few cubes of ice if you want and blend until
smooth.
Strawberry Soy Sensation
3 cups vanilla soy milk
1 ripe banana cut up
1 cup strawberries
Sugar or honey to taste (opt)
Blender everything until smooth.
Pineapple Power Drink
1 cup pineapple juice
1 banana cut up
1/3 cup nonfat instant dry powdered milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Sugar or honey to taste (opt – start with 3 tablespoons)
Blender together. Add cubes of ice until of desired consistency.
Berry Cherry Smoothie
1 cup cherry yogurt
1/3 cup cranberry juice
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup fresh pitted or frozen pitted cherries
Blend everything together until smooth.
TIPS FROM RITA’S KITCHEN: In the above recipes, you can use a sugar
substitute, soy, rice or fat free milk, fat and sugar free ice creams,
or even fruits of your choice. Experiment and come up with your own “signature” recipe!
A great treat -- blender drinks.
