Party Planning

TERRIFIC TIPS FOR A PERFECT PARTY:

1. Allow 8-12 appetizers per person. The heavier the food, the less needed. Ditto for a party that lasts a couple of hours vs 4 or more.

2. When the guests arrive, have cold or room temperature appetizers out.

3. As the party progresses, pass the hot appetizers.

4. Have portions bite size to fit on small plates.

5. Plenty of napkins!

6. Don’t overcrowd platters when passing them.

7. Have some simple dishes and some more complex ones.

8. Everything from scratch? Not necessary!

9. Do ahead appetizers are a boon to the hostess so that she can enjoy the party.

10. Coffee and dessert should be passed about 1 hour before you want the party to end.

ONE MORE THING • Candles: No question – they make everyone and everything look better. But don’t overdo on the number of candles, leave scented ones for the bathroom only, and don’t put a candle on the back of the toilet – some guests have long hair – enough said!
