Wormy Halloween Pasta in a Jack-O-Lantern
So easy and so much fun. And no real “recipe”. Get big bell peppers, orange preferably. Cut them out as you would a pumpkin: cut the top off and hollow out the inside before carving. Now just take your favorite pasta recipe and spoon it into each pepper, and as you spoon it, you can have the pasta start falling out of the eyes, top, etc. That’s the wormy part!
Serve with breadstick bones:
Breadstick Bones
I made these with the grandkids last week and they were really good. Open a can of breadsticks and separate them. Have the kids (or you) cut a small slit into the ends of each and roll up the slit part with your fingers to make a little ball shapes. These, as they bake, will make the breadsticks turn into “bones”. Just follow the directions for baking on the can.
Goulish Halloween Hands
Use plastic food handlers gloves – the clear kind only as you might have guests who are allergic to the latex gloves and some of them are powdered inside, as well. Fill with colored liquid and tie off the open end securely. You have to now lay these on a flat surface if you want them to freeze flat; if not you can freeze them curved over the bottom of a bowl.
Halloween icing: Add 1 cup of powdered sugar to a can of store bought white icing. Color as desired. This icing is easier to work with than the icing straight from the can and holds shapes better.
Halloween Devil's Cakes
1 package devil’s food cake mix
1 tablespoon cocoa
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup water
3 large eggs, room temperature
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350. Line 18-20 cupcake pans. Blend everything together
in large mixing bowl for one minute. Increase speed to medium and beat two
minutes more. Pour into pans, filling each one three quarters full. Bake
28-30 minutes, until they spring back when lightly pressed. Let cool for
5 minutes. Decorate as desired.
Spiders
1 pkg red or black licorice strings, cut into halves
Oreo cookies
Round little candies, like Skittles or your choice
Chocolate icing
Split cookies in half and spread a dab of icing on each side. Add 4 pieces of licorice to each cookie and put the top back on the cookie. Use icing “glue” for eyes.
Bat Wings
Preheat oven to 375.
These are fun crouton-like bread shapes to float on top of soups or stews.
Remove crusts from bread. Flatten the bread with a rolling pin. Cut each
bread slice into half diagonally, and cut wavy lines to resemble bat wings
as you go. Brush with olive oil or butter and sprinkle with garlic powder.
Bake until golden brown, turning once. This will take about 8 minutes or
so.
